What is a miracle?

As humans we often say things like “it was a miracle that I made it here” or “its a miracle i was not struck by a buss”.  We have come to use the word “miracle” to lightly in most cases.

I think we have not seen true miracles (or very few) for a long time as people are not living in faith anymore and depending on God and/or following God.  People are living day by day depending on their salaries, depending on what they know, depending on the wealth, depending on the talents etc. Also there are numerous people who misuse the word “miracle” and making millions from it by scamming people therefore people no longer believe.

A Miracle according to the dictionary:  “an extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine agency”

So a miracle according to the dictionary is something that is unexplained by the natural and can only come from a divine person/agency.  It is something which you will stand in awe off when it happens.

A miracle in my mind is something that comes from God and is done for His glory yet helping us as humans.  There are many recorded miracles in the old and new testament of the Bible below which are awesome.  There are also numerous miracle accounts in today’s modern society yet not as “great” seemingly as what is mentioned in the Bible.  My thinking behind this is that people are no longer striving after God, they are no longer reading their Bibles to strengthen their faith and they no longer trust in God.  A lot of people only turn to God when they are helpless/hopeless and in those circumstances because they have no relationship with God, they actually have no faith in what He can do and then when nothing happens, people complain and say God doesnt exist and doesnt care.  This is simply not true.  The Bible is full of verses describing His love for us and how He wants to lead us and be a Father to us but its a 2 way street.  God says “Draw near to God and He will draw close to you (first part of James 4:8)

When we live according to how God wants us to live, a Christian life (as mentioned in a previous article) then we will see His Glory every day in “small” miracles and in the “big” miracles which He wants to do for us for His glory.

Follow God, not for the miracles, but having a relationship with Him, to seek Him, to know Him and the follow Him.  God says “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” Matthew 6:33
